A large seafood processing plant heralded the firm’s diversification. Set up in 1968 at Kollam in the picturesque backwaters of Kerala, Esmario Export Enterprises processes seafood to exacting international quality standards. It is a large and modern sea food processing plant where care is taken to ensure processing is done in stringent hygienic conditions. Esmario’s Sea Food division acquired 2 deep sea fishing trawlers from Mexico in 1974 to strengthen its fishing fleet. The plant incorporates facilities for water and effluent treatment. Standby power and other requirements are provided making it easy for the firm to meet revised EEC norms and FDA regulations. The firm won the Government of India’s prestigious National Award for Outstanding Export Performance for 1969-70.
